The Cammus C5 Direct Drive and Moza R21 Wheel Base are both direct drive wheels with impressive torque ratings. The Cammus boasts 5Nm, while the Moza R21 edges out with a whopping 21Nm. Both have standard quick releases and are PC-compatible, so it's a tie in terms of hardware specs.
I've seen firsthand the issues plaguing the Cammus C5 Direct Drive. Users are reporting problems galore – from pedal unresponsiveness to customer support that's as useless as a paperweight. One poor soul had to deal with a new PCB board being sent, only to be told it was impossible for software fixes due to the "simplicity" of the pedals. I can only imagine the frustration of having to navigate through Discord channels and ticket systems just to get some semblance of help.
The shipping process is another area where Cammus falls short. Buyers are waiting excessive amounts of time, with no tracking information to ease their minds. It's a nightmare, and one that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. And let's not forget the pedals – they're essentially useless, and users are being forced to invest in shifter pedals just to get some semblance of functionality.
Now, I know some of you might be thinking, "But what about the Moza R21?" Well, let me tell you, it's no saint. Users have reported issues with freezing mid-game and erratic behavior. One poor soul had to replace their PCB board, but even that didn't solve the problem.
Both wheels are plagued by problems, but I'd say the Cammus C5 Direct Drive takes the cake for sheer incompetence. The Moza R21 might be a better option, but it's still got its own set of issues.
For the budget-conscious sim racer looking to dip their toes into direct drive, I'd recommend avoiding both wheels like the plague. However, if you're dead set on getting one of these monstrosities, I suppose the Moza R21 might be a slightly better option – but don't say I didn't warn you.
If you can afford it, there are far better options out there that won't leave you crying yourself to sleep at night. The Cammus C5 Direct Drive is an absolute no-go in its current state, and the Moza R21 isn't much better. Save your money, folks – or better yet, invest in a decent shifter pedal to go with whatever wheel you choose.
